- A worm has no arms, legs or eyes.
- There are approximately 2,700 different kinds of earthworms.
- The Australian Gippsland Earthworm grows to 12 feet long and can weigh 1-1/2 pounds.
- In one acre of land (3/4 of a football field), there can be more than one million earthworms!
- The largest earthworm ever found was in South Africa and measured 22 feet from its anterior (top) to its posterior (end).
- Worms are cold-blooded animals.
- If an earthworm is accidentally cut in two, the anterior (front end) will probably survive but the posterior (tail end) will die. The head can then grow a new, shorter tail.
- Baby worms are not born. They hatch from cocoons smaller than a grain of rice.

- Worms do not have eyes but they can sense light. Their anterior (front end) is very sensitive to light. They do not like the light and move away from it. If they stay in the light for too long,even for an hour, they can get badly hurt.
- If a worm’s skin dries out, it will die.
